Dave: Linseed oil and tung oil work in very similar ways. Linseed oil is
much cheaper than tung. Both can be painted over, but both must be
thoroughly dried before doing so. Make sure you discuss the matter with the
paint store to get the right paint and PRIMER. No primer- no stick!

Thanks goes out to you also. I hadn't thought about epoxy. Here I
thought I'd get one "best" method from the List and now I've got at
least three to consider with maybe more coming! I had planned on
doing the priming/sealing and painting before installing the
beams. Since holes have to put in the beam for bolts as well as the
gutter drain pipes I'd also planned on putting them in before
priming/sealing and painting.
