Gordon this is very interesting rumor. If my history is correct the Norfolk Southern (original) sucessor to Norfolk and Southern wound up in the Southern fold. Do you have any more history on this? Cal Reynolds.

You're correct, Cal.? Happened in 1973 by my recollection.? Southern had trackage rights over ACL
(later SBD) Selma to Pinners Point.? When CSX came on the scene, they re-routed Norfolk traffic
via North Weldon and the former SAL, leaving Southern to bear 100% of the expenses Tarboro to
Boone Tower.? With their one train a day handling but?15-20 cars, apparently NS was an
alternative.

Through the years, there's been much speculation about an NS takeover.? When Patrick B. McGinnis
left CofGa to come to NS, the rumor was he was out to form a link?to the CofGa using NS and P&N.
McGinnis went on the greater things -- the New Haven and then?prison.

When Bill Henschell?came from C&O and brought D.F.McPherson (also C&O) to be Superintendent,
NS?would certainly be?absorbed by the C and Aught -- it wasn't.??
?????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Harry Bundy
