Definitely one of my favorite drives whenever I can make it back "home". I believe that the state has moved portions of Rt. 61 over the past 30 or so years but it's still more than 8 miles.

Wonder where the 8 miles from Narrows to Rocky Gap came from
(unless I'm missing something)? I remember us taking credit for earning
our Boy Scout Cycling merit badges of ~25 miles per round trip. I checked
Google Maps and it says the distance from Narrows (downtown) to Rocky Gap is
17+ miles. The railroad grade made for easy riding and the scenery was
always beautiful.

WORK ON RAILROAD AGAIN HELD UP

------

Dr. Bogle
Files Notice of Appeal From Decision of Judge Kegley of Circuit Court

J. G. White, of Libscomb & Company,
contractors on the New River, Holston and Western Railway, who was in the city
yesterday, says that work has again been held up on the Dr. Bogle farm by a
notice of appeal from the decision of the circuit court at Tazewell in the
injunction matter. The court refused Dr. Bogle's injunction, and the
contractors proceeded to work on the quarter mile stretch which passed through
the plantation, but were stopped in two days by the appeal actions.

The rest of the grading, Mr. White says,
is being rushed ahead. The entire distance of the road from Narrows to
Rocky Gap, in Bland county, is eight miles, and four miles of this has already been
completed. According to Mr. White if the building is not interfered with
by litigation, the line will be completed and in operation by the first of the
year.
