	Norfolk Southern continues to work to restore normal operations
across a wide area that was hit with a winter storm over the weekend. 
Power outages in many of the hardest hit areas of western North
Carolina, western Virginia, West Virginia, Maryland, and eastern
Pennsylvania are limiting both road and local service operations. 
Customers with shipments moving through these areas should expect
delays of up to 72 hours. 
	Local service is being restored, but in many area will be provided
later than normal service windows.  And, some of the hardest hit
areas, local service will not be available until operating conditions
allow. 
	Customers with questions regarding specific shipments   should
contact their Customer Service Representative.

   Central Yard Operations representatives are also available to
answer any   questions regarding local service (set/pull) in the
affected area.

	Note to Coal customers, including customers with contracts or other
agreements with Norfolk Southern:  Norfolk Southern has invoked Force
Majeure effective 12:01 A.M. December 19, 2009, on traffic moving
through this area.  Norfolk Southern will advise when the conditions
that have given rise to this Force Majeure have ended.
