FAYETTE WOOLWINE, RAS BURTON AND O. H. HUGHES DEAD IN WRECK OF SPECIAL TRAIN CARRYING OFFICIALS ON INSPECTION TRIP
------
Unfortunately most of the article on the microfilm copy was too indistinct to transcribe, but enough was decipherable to provide the following summary:

The inspection train consisted of an engine, two ordinary coaches and the special car of Pres. L. E. Johnson. Also on the car were Gen. Mgr. (later president) N. D. Maher and Gen. Supt. Geo. P. Johnson of the Pocahontas Division (actually it probably should be the Western General Division). The eastbound special left Williamson at 2:45 p.m. and wrecked while passing Delorme station.

The dead were Woolwine, Road Foreman of Engines on the Pocahontas Division (who was probably in the engine cab); Burton, engineer in charge; Hughes agent at Delorme who was on the platform to watch the train by when he was struck by the wrecked equipment. The cause was thought to be a broken arch bar (part of a truck side frame) on the tank (tender). Apparently there were no injuries to the officials.

I am not aware of any other account of this noteworthy accident of an official inspection train on the N&W.
