IN CITY AND COALFIELD
------
Cutting Million Feet of Lumber
The C. L. Ritter Lumber Company's plant at Whitewood is now cutting a million feet of lumber a month, and the output is being gradually increased. The company ships its timber via Doran on the Norfolk and Western, and has a system of railroad of its own which would do credit to a much larger plant.
------
[Doran is on the Clinch Valley about 2.3 miles west of Richlands. A 1916 topo map shows the lumber railroad running north out of Doran to Whitewood. The route scales about 12 miles, but the actual distance along the track was probably longer. The N&W's Dismal Creek branch of the Buchanan Branch would be built into and through Whitewood in 1936.]
