An automatic block system with position light signals was installed on the Bluestone Branch from Cooper (end of double track) on 4.2 miles of single track to Clift in 1926. This appears to be the first time PL signals were installed on the Pocahontas Division. Railway Signaling magazine does not indicate what kind of signaling (if any) was there prior to that. CTC was installed on double track between Bluestone and Cooper in 1950 with PL signals as a part of the opening of the Elkhorn tunnel. Cooper tower was probably removed at the same time.

I have had access to Railway Signaling (and Communications) magazines from 1922 to 1970 and am using the featured articles and yearly statistics for the writing of a series of articles for The Arrow on N&W signaling from 1928 to 1959.

Historians,

When (roughly) were semaphore signals installed and also removed in the Pocahontas District?

When was the Cooper station/tower removed? (Pocahontas District)

I'm working on a Cooper timeline and these two events will help me organize some photos.
Thank You,
Dave Willis
