That is correct that we sold 1827 to Monticello, we felt it important
to get equipment back to area it served in, most of its regular
service life.

About 1981-82, Roanoke Chapter acquired coach 1829 from RRP. It was
made into a smooth side car, and placed in service in the excursion
train.

The car was damaged in September 1994, when the excursion train was
parked for the night, in Lynchburg. The train was parked safely, on a
locked track. A piggyback train was shoved back into it in the middle
of the night, making for a very hard hit on the rear of the train,
with handbrakes tied down. The piggyback train shoved the entire
consist forward, bunching up several cars in the middle of the train,
in a curve. At the center of that curve was 1829, which took most of
the brunt of the collision. It had vestibule damage, but most
importantly, the center sill was broken, you could readily see the
damage in the roof and sides.

After salvaging usable parts, the car was finally scrapped about 5-6
years ago.
