Not quite coordinates, but the attached 1937 USGS topo map shows Merrimac to be the crossing of the N&W Blacksburg Branch over the Virginian main line and Merrimac Mines to be less than a mile to the north. It may be hard to make out, but there is the crossed hammer and pick symbol for a mine just to the left of the label, "Merrimac Mines." Also, note that there was a short spur leading off to the east just south of Merrimac Mines.

I hope some erudite and generous soul can post GPS coordinates for the "anthracite" mines on the old Virginia Anthracite Coal & Railway Company. Surely information on the excavations must have been published in state geological reports of that era.
