High Visibility

Larry,

I agree. As a locomitive engineer here in the United Kingdom, normally the only hi-visibility kit I have to wear is a vest or tabard which has no sleeves. If however I am acting as a switchman I have to wear hi-vis trousers and hi-vis top half, be it t-shirt, jacket or coat. I also have to wear a safety helmet. So now over here it depends on what duties you are covering that decides what you need to wear. The MOW trackmen have to wear the same as what I described above for switchman duties, so like today when it was at least 90 deg F. they expect the trackmen to maintain the track wearing what is called "all orange", PLUS a safety helmet and I believe possibly now eye protection as well. How is a man supposed to work in such heat with all that kit on? It is crazy. What is the safety helmet for? What is going to hit them on the head during track patrolling? An eagle? Health & Safety over here sadly parted company with Common Sense some time ago. Very sad. Recently, not on the railway, a worker on a building site was stopped by the Health & Safety Executive because he was operating a Stihl saw with no dust mask or ear muffs. He got handed a FIVE YEAR building site ban, in other words he is now unemployed for a long time.

Kind regards to you all,

Miceal Tyre

I will have to side with Jimmy on this one. Put a man out in the 90 degree heat and have
him were a hot plastic bag makes no since but when he dies of heat stroke we will be able to spot
him. I am sure its just a matter of time before everyone has to were them to be on the property.
With all the scum sucking lawyers that this country is blessed with I am sure someone is working on the
design of the full body condom

"This is one idea that we borrowed from the Brits that really seems to work."

Yeah, well speak for yourself Ed. I haven't found anyone that likes other hot oppressive vests yet. On top of that, the people that really need to be seen, car inspectors and outside shop forces, don't have to wear them.
