IN CITY AND COALFIELD
------
Wreck Narrowly Averted
Passenger train No. 6 on the Clinch Valley narrowly escaped wrecking yesterday when the engine ran upon a log which was being dragged across the track near the Honaker tunnel. The engineer was able to pull up his train, stopping in time to escape derailing the train. It appears that John Ward, a native of that section, who been out in the woods and was returning with a cross tie to which a horse was hitched. He could not get the log across before the engine struck it and about ten minutes was consumed by the train crew in pulling the log from underneath the engine pilot where it had wedged itself.
