THE GRAHAM DAILY NEWS
------
Underground Crossing
George P. Johnson, general superintendent of the western general division, W. S. Becker, superintendent of the Pocahontas division, and W. R. Dawson, assistant superintendent, of Bluefield, were in Graham yesterday and went over the ground where the town is asking the Norfolk and Western to put in the underground crossing where the main thoroughfare crosses the Clinch Valley branch opposite the Mitchell ice factory. The question has been raised, especially at this time, on account of the new streets being graded, although the matter has been discussed for several years in a general way. It is understood the railroad company agreed some days ago to provide the subway crossing if the town would bear one third of the expense. The citizens, together with the state highway commission, have been urging the council for some time to take step whereby the crossing can be provided and it is believed some definite arrangements will be known within a short time as to just what will be done. Mayor V. L. Sexton together with a committee from the Graham council is handling the matter with the officials.
