Waynesbor "Diner" Track

I am curious to know what became known as the "Diner Track" at Waynesboro was originally used for.  My guess is that it was a team track originally.  The reason I say this is that during my era of interest, 1956, the diner on Trains 1 and 2 was added/removed at Shenandoah, as dining car service was available Shenandoah-Roanoke .  Later, I believe in the early 60s, dining car service on 1 and 2 was cut back to Waynesboro-Roanoke.  The diner would be stored on this track.
