Well said Jason.

Anyone can sit on the sidelines and say what needs to be done. Very few get
off their butts or open their wallets. As for me, I do my sweating on the
East Broad Top, and travel 256 miles each way to do it.

the best that we can with limited resources. Our main focus the last few
years has been to get Frisco 1630 a Russian Decapod operational again. The
good news is that it past it's 1472 day federal inspection in October, and
we did a test run in November.


Concerning 2050 specifically, I would very much like to complete a
cosmetic restoration eventually. All we need is people to do the work and money.
It is inside a building to protect it from the elements unlike several
other engines that sit outside. I welcome any members on the list who live
near IRM to come out and volunteer.

I just did a Google Search on N&W 2050. I looked at the images. Is the
entire locomotive rusted below the walkways? It looks like its in bad
shape. Tell me again what it is they do at the IRM? Take care of the engines?
NO.

How so? Have you seen the 2156 in recent times? yuck comes to mind. I mean
who in their right mind PAINTS the RODS!

St Louis has been a good caretaker of the 2156 probably a lot better
than VMT would have done. Of course it would be nice two see all three

As a Virginia transplant to Illinois and N&W Historical Society member, I
want to let you know I would hate for the Illinois Railway Museum to lose
the 2050 and for the National Transportation Museum in St Louis to lose the
2156. There are N&W fans worldwide and we like having a small piece of its
history in easy driving distance. That said, I do understand the desire
to bring the girls home to Roanoke. And seeing them under steam would be
glorious...since I have missed everything since then, steam wise.
Something neat happened at IRM--I was videotaping a kid about 5 years old
running around being a nuisance...(to everyone but me)...he climbed on the
nose of 2050 and was yanking the bell cord...I muttered to myself, That's
N&W brass, boy, and you just go to town and let me record. His parents have
no idea that they were the ones being a nuisance...they took him off the
locomotive!
