Roanoke visit

Good morning, 

My wife and I will be driving down from Front Royal to Roanoke next week. 
Other than the VMOT and Link museums, what are some "should not miss" 
opportunities in the area.  I have seen the Roanoke Railfan guide and 
railsinvirgina websites.  I'm interested in mail line action, old 
stations, historic landmarks, signals, etc.
