And the train I saw this week at Antietam (14 miles south of Hagerstown
NB) were all NS Top Gon's.

"Last Monday I saw a hopper train heading north out of Roanoke on the
Shenandoah Division. Is this typical?"

I have been told that it has been for a while now. Taking less time to
get back to where ever they are loaded.

Kinda interesting. Some utility companies (Dominion for one)
own or lease hoppers. Since the railroad doesn't supply the
hoppers, the owner (lessee) gets a rebate (depending on the
depreciated value of the car). If the hopper train had NS
hoppers, it wouldn't apply, but with privately owned hoppers,
each rakes in about $0.15 or more per mile. Harry Bundy
