Early Concrete

So happens I am at present reading about Henry Flagler's building of the
FEC extension to Key West in the early 1900s (using his own money!) and the
forming and pouring of the multiple concrete arches which were a real
challenge to say the least. Everything needed, floating equipment, timber,
crushed stone, sand and cement and re-steel had to be brought in via
ship/barge. The water came in by train from Homestead. Would recommend to
all getting a copy of this book ($13.00 from Amazon) for a fascinating tale
of railroad building including recovering from two direct-hit hurricanes
during construction.
