Afternoon is the best light at the west portal. Be careful as I've heard from numerous railfans that NS special agents are increasing their patrols of that area.

Thanks! The signals at Elkhorn Tunnel are my main spot I want to shoot. Does anyone have any advice on railfanning the tunnel like best time to take pics to get good light? 

I'd like to get several other spots so how hard is it to chase on the Pokey from US 52?

Here is the current list from east to west between Bluefield and Iaeger. It's getting shorter year by year. You also might want to shoot the remaining CPL signals east of Bluefield as well. Signal crews are hitting the Christiansburg District hard right now.
