Jimmy,

You asked about which tenders had roller bearings. Below I stated there
were a total of 35 Y-5 and Y-6a tenders that had plain
bearings.

There were 10 more since the last ten Y-6s built (nos. 2145-54) received
plain tenders when built in 1940. Five of these were later equipped with
roller bearing Buckeye trucks between 1947 and 1949. The tenders behind
2150-54 had only plain bearing to the end of service although there was a
rare change of tender assignment at the end.

The 16 Y-6a and 19 Y-5 tenders were all equipped with plain bearings. There
was a proposal in 1944 to apply roller bearings to these tender axles but
the streamlining of the K-2's having tender roller bearings was done
instead.

Is 2156's tender riding on plain bearings or are there roller bearings
hiding behind those journal lids? Is it known which tenders received
roller bearings and which kept the plain bearings?
