A PL-2 is the Union Switch and Signal nomenclature for a position light signal.

Well, one of the easier ways to tell if its N&W is if its been colorized and the center light blanked...that's the first give away. If not, then MOST (there are always exceptions) were painted all black....front and back...I've never seen one painted the way you've described in old photos or in current day.

 Is there a way to differentiate between a N&W and PRR PL-2? I picked one up last year, was told it was N&W, but most of the N&W ones I've seen are painted all black, while mine has an aluminum/silver painted body with black hoods.
