I read the same thing after what I wrote below. Princeton to KV Junction will become an access line to Princeton but not for coal traffic as before.

I did read that a NS spokeswoman said the customer in Princeton will continue to receive rail service via the P-D District mainline between Princeton and Kelleysville.

The term KV Junction now makes sense to me. Regardless of your political persuasions, this is a result of a cause and effect. And regardless of the cause, the effect is the same -- old Virginian line between Elmore and Kellysville will be taken out of service and a new era begins.

Times are a-changing and regrettably so.

What does “P-D “ stand for? On the old N&W, PD meant “Pulaski District”. Where is “P-D Junction located; Kellysville or ???

I'm not sure the EPA Is the prime reason for the decline in coal use. The increased availability of cheap natural gas is the reason many utilities have stopped burning coal. And I'm not sure the decline in coal use is the prime reason for downgrading the P-D district. Apparently NS figures it is cheaper to route traffic to Wharncliffe than to maintain traffic on the P-D district.

I have not seen this mentioned on this group yet, so I'll pass along what I've been told by multiple sources. Elmore Yard will be closing October 1 and the NS P-D District will no longer be utilized between Elmore and P-D Junction. All traffic will be routed over the NS Guyandotte River Branch to the Pokey main at Wharncliffe. That means nearly 50 miles of the old VGN mainline will fall silent. Whether this is temporary or permanent, I do not know. Time will tell but it doesn't sound good given the current climate of the coal industry. Again, just passing along what I'm being told.
