Yes.  Shortly after the first ones were built they started handling passenger trains 41 and 42 down there; for quite a while there were As on time freights; they were used on heavy passenger extras even into 1956 and 1957.  There’s a book available that has photos of As at Bristol and on the Bristol Line.
