Last night I had the pleasure of "Takin' Twenty" with four of the Brethren
and Friends of the Virginian Railway. Raymond East was a little late
because of the tremendous storm (raining at about 45 degrees) yet made it
in with only little "water damage". He said it would be a good day to fire
a steam engine. Raymond was a fireman on the Virginian when a short
handled shovel was used to "feed the fire". He said he recalled making the
fire "look like a bed with sheets flat" using some sort of rake. He also
remembered the yard engines getting all sorts of coal, some with dirt in it
but some"with a lot of fire".

Landon Gregory was in good spirits and wore his "Trump" hat that caused
several comments that we will not report today.

I have posted on this site my photo of a train board just installed at the
Station in Roanoke. It is positioned almost exactly where it showed
passengers arrival and departure times for old numbers 3 and 4 for many
years. Two were donated by Bill Arnold and made by George Stein, both
members of the Roanoke Chapter NRHS. The second one is in the "breezeway"
between the Station and Baggage and Express building. They add a lot of
"class" to the already beautiful lady.

The Jewel from the Past, like those in a 23 jewel Illinois Sangamo with
the # "6" inside the second hand circle with Fahys Montgomery dial, and
Montauk RR case is from April 22, 2009: "Frank Breedlove told the Brethren
that he knows a friend who went to his doctor for a check up and the doctor
told him he had but 6 months to live. After the 6 months was up, he went
back to the same doctor, and since he had not paid his bill, the doctor
gave him 6 more months."

The Virginian Station is almost ready for a "grand opening". We are
planning a special opening for the public sometime in November after the
election. I will keep you posted.

Then there's this: A man phones home from the office and tells his wife,
"Something has just come up. I need to go fishing with the boss for the
weekend. We leave right away, so can you pack my clothes , my fishing
equipment, and my blue silk pajamas? I'll be home in an hour to pick them
up. He hurries home, grabs everything, and rushes off. Sunday night, he
returns . His wife asks, "Did you have a good trip?" "Oh yes, great! I
think I really impressed the boss. But you forgot to pack my blue silk
pajamas." "Oh no I didn't. I put them in your tackle box."

Time to pull the pin on this one!
