That particular crossing signal was used for the siding that left the Spice Creek Branch at MP 4.22 and went up Newsome Fork about 1.12 miles to serve the Premier Pocahontas Collieries No. 4 tipple. The mine opened in 1912. The mine was shut down in 1953, but the tracks were left in place for several years. Similar to the crossing for the Caretta Branch near War, WV.

I am curious about this crossing signal located on US 52 in Premier, WV. Do any of you know its purpose or a possible connection to a branch line?
