Mysterious crossing, Premier, WV

The signal was probably put in in 1932 when Rt 52 was opened between Welch
and Roderfield.

The tender was probably installed by a coal company and used as a water
tank. The tracks on the Bear Wallow spur were removed in 1943. The pictures
were taken on Nov 18, 2011.

Does anyone know about what year the crossing signal was put in? It's
strange NS didn't remove it too. Could their attitude about keeping track,
signals, etc for potential use again in future if be why it was left?

I've never heard about this lost tender before. What's the story behind it?

That particular crossing signal was used for the siding that left the Spice
Creek Branch at MP 4.22 and went up Newsome Fork about 1.12 miles to serve
the Premier Pocahontas Collieries No. 4 tipple. The mine opened in 1912.
The mine was shut down in 1953, but the tracks were left in place for
several years. Similar to the crossing for the Caretta Branch near War, WV.
