Bob Hundman (Mainline Modeler) has done articles on building styrene stations from scratch. If you can find them, they might have useful tips.
In the old days, RMC would print structures on the back cover of the magazine. You could cement the cover stock to something heavier and build the structure. And you could add details as you wished.Have not seen the cardstock RR depot, but something like we did with RMC might be a possibility.

Has anyone made a model in HO of the Rural Retreat Depot or one close to it?  I just finished the cardstock version, but it is not suitable for a layout.  I am considering trying to build one from styrene using the cardstock model as a guide.  Any suggestions?
