When The Cavalier combined with The Cannonball,  Norfolk-
Petersburg, it was The Cannonball that relayed The Cavalier's
consists, leaving No. 16's crew with a 19 hour layover in

. By 1965 the sleeping car service ended and the train was combined with the N&W Cavalier and the ACL Local passenger train at Petersburg. This service ended.by 1967 when the Cannonball made its last run.
