Hello Jack,

The N&W operated all of their major classes of steam engines in Norfolk in the 1940’s and 1950’s. 4-8-4 Class J’s and 4-8-2 Class K2/K2a’s on passenger trains. 2-6-6-4 Class A’s on time freights and coal trains. Numerous Y Class 2-8-8-2’s including the Y6b operated into Norfolk on local freights and coal trains. The 4-8-2 Class K1 also ran local freights into Norfolk. As for yard switchers the S1/S1a Class 0-8-0’s could be found around the Lambert’s Point yard and Norfolk passenger station. I believe some of the older Y Class 2-8-8-2’s and Z class 2-6-6-2’s could be found in Norfolk as well.

Sincerely,
Joseph Congemi
