I will speak up for the "Frank at the Summit," a.k.a. the "Recorder of
All Things AY."

This is Frank Akers, Grandson of the last Agent at Rural Retreat, and the
moving power behind the several million dollar restoration of the depot. I
believe he has been Chairman of the restoration organization throughout the
effort. And he is a true Southern Gentleman of the Old Order. Without
Frank, that depot would never have been restored.

I am speaking up in Frank's behalf because he is probably just now caught
up in one of his unending series of flights between California, where he
lives now, and Rural Retreat.

Attached is a photo of Frank taken last October, at the Grand Opening of
the renovated structure. He is seated below a company photograph of his
Grandfather, J. Lacey Akers, Station Agent at Rural Retreat. His
bodyguards are (at left) Mr. George Stein of Bedford, who installed the
operating telegraph there, and at right Mr. Ben Blevins, signal maintainer
on the N&W Bristol Line. ( I could make comment about using two foxes to
guard the chicken house, but would probably be sued, so shall just hold my
peace ! )
