Clean out tracks

By recollection, the clean-out tracks at Bison Yard (Buffalo) were notelevated.  In the winter of 1977, the function of the clean-out trackschanged, however.   Instead, the tracks became the loading pointwhere outside contractors could get rid of snow that had accumulatedin the yard.  One official had an idea -- load snow into empty Clinchfieldhopper cars and it would surely melt before reaching St. Paul.  Severalweeks later, there was a headline in The Roanoke Times -  "St. Paulreceives belated Christmas gift".  The hoppers were hauled to Bluefieldto allow them to thaw.                                                                   Harry Bundy
