Machine Number

Hello!
I've just come into the possession of an N & W machine number plate. It
says N &W RY. CO. Machine Number 11303.

I am curious if there is some way to find out what kind of tool/machine
this was originally attached to and maybe even where it was located.

Might there be an inventory list somewhere? I know I might be grasping at
straws, but if there is some way to find out, I think that would be
awesome.
