WJP:Could be that Engineer Baugh had relied on his wife to get his railroad approvedwatch to the jeweler.  He spent more time at the away-from-home terminal than hedid in Raleigh.  I believe some jewelers did offer loaners.  I'd take my Hamilton992-B to a local jeweler (approved watch inspector) and never had to leave itfor repairs.   Seems I recall that railroad watches had to be inspected once a year. The NS required that you have on hand a watch inspection card showing dates ofinspection and repairs.  No supervisor ever asked to see mine.  One smarty saidthat all you needed on that railroad was a calendar. No supervisor on the N&W everasked to see my watch or an inspection card.
Off your territory I know, but didn't the East Wayne yard office have a standardclock for Fostoria District crews showing EST and one for Chicago District crewsshowing CST ?                                                    Harry Bundy
