To follow on Ed’s comments:

All Class J got doghouses and auxiliary tank connections between February 11, 1958 and March 7, 1958, all but 611 and 612 were done at Shaffers Crossing, 611 an 612 were done at Roanoke Shops.

Don’t recall any on K2s.

It was taken into Portsmouth shop and repaired and to expedite its return to service it got the front engine of the 1213 (Alligator crosshead guides) which was being overhauled. When the 1213 was outshoppe it had 1205’s front dngine. I have photos of both in the book. They kept the mismatched front engines until the end. Neither “dropped a crosshead guide”. The heavy guide yoke kept the bottom guide of the Alligator assembly from dropping and the multiple-bearing guide was equally secure.
