Several Y3's and Y4's received the front frames and cylinders from the Y5's when the Y5's were rebuilt with cast steel frames in 1940 or 1941. Apparently this was done on a random basis, and there is photographic evidence that more than 19 engines got these frames at one time or another. The rest of the Y3's and Y4's kept their as built front cylinders.

A question… Recently I purchased an MTH N&W Y3 #2022.  However, looking at your excellent photo of the Y3, I am wondering why my model does not look a lot closer to #2033; specifically the Y steam pipes to the front cylinders.

Neat picture. What a great view and, until the cinders take over, a chance to hear some great stack talk too. Love the Y-3 class engines.

We've probably heard enough about doghouses, but this is one of my favorites.  The brakeman is out for some air.  An N&W photo.  Y3 2033 blt Alco Schenectady 1919, scrapped 5-1958. I found it at a show years ago.
