Last steam operation date for EACH major class

Bob

Still cannot answer the questions below, as far as I know, a lot of that was never truly recorded, at least not that survived.

Gordon as a four page memo of steam dispatchments from various terminals by month, but it does not have specific numbers, and exactly how is a dispatchment determined, is a yard engine dispatched on each shift if it is the same locomotive, or did it go to the house for fire cleaning and coal and water once a day?

Here is the result of my research on Roanoke terminal Park Street dispatchments which we have a number of the air test dates, trains, locomotives and times. I was curious as to same things, but the books only cover east/south/north movements from Park Street, not westbound. It also does not cover inbound movements.

I recorded from the books from February 1, 1959 and checked through the end of August. I came up with about 4 pages of notes, none of which were typed up.

The result was the back cover of the Arrow, 35-3.

We read all sorts of facts and figures and understandably, not all info and details have survived as it was not considered important back then, but today, a lot of those nitty-gritty details are highly desired.

Same question for the A class (okay - stationary boiler work doesn't count here), E, M, M1, M2, H, and especially the Z class as very little seems to have been said about them, likely because they were retired and scrapped earlier than the others and were not as beloved.

I'm not quite as 'hot to trot' about the different classes of Y's but if that information is out there, I wouldn't turn away from it and think it could make for a neat tale, especially when woven into the fabric of other relevant information.

That was printed in Trains 25 years ago and is wonderful and romantic to read today, but was it the last (as an example) of a Z to operate on N&W.
