With clearance issues of the "super gons" you mentioned, I was wondering if there was any non-coal related movements between Lynchburg & Brookneal?
Herb:It's been 50 years (next month) since I crossed theDurham District and I'm not up-to-date on the industriesbetween Kinney and Brookneal.  N&W,s Station & Sidingsmanual lists several industrial sidings, but I can't saythey're still in service --

NAME                                 Miles from Lynchburg station*Falwell Siding                                       5.97Lone Jack                                             7.63Metco Metals Corp.                               9.07Westvaco (West Va. Pulp + Paper)     30.27
* Note that mileage was calculated from the psgr station in
  downtown Lynchburg.
Incidentally, NWHS member Louis Newton noted that at onetime N&W had a proposal to eliminate clearance problems atLynchburg Tunnel by building a connection near Posm on theLynchburg Belt Line to the Durham District south of the tunnel. The proposed connection would have crossed U.S. 501.  Fundsfor the connection were never approved.    Harry Bundy
