On October 19, 1934, the six car train came from Washington, DC via the Southern to Lynchburg, hence the N&W to Roanoke, arrival at 3:30 pm. Roosevelt paraded through the City from Jefferson Street to the new Veterans Hospital at Salem, where he did the dedication. Meanwhile, the train had been turned, and backed to Salem, where Roosevelt reboarded, and the train went east at 6:00 pm to Petersburg where it was handed over to the Atlantic Coast Line, who then took it to the C&O, I assume at Richmond for its final destination of Williamsburg at 2:00 am on the 20th. Roosevelt was there for receipt of honorary degree from William and Mary, installation of new president at 10:00 am. The motorcaded to Yorktown where he took the USS Sequoia back to Washington.
