Mike, that’s an impressively-sized model 3D model, especially for (what appears to be) resin.

I may touch base with you offline about some questions I have about that and a detail question about the CAD screenshot.

Mike,

I can't say that I have a definitive answer for you, but I have spent some pleasurable time looking through my slide collection (no luck) and books today.

On page 101 of Norfolk and Western in Color, 1945 - 1964 by Jim Nichols there are two photos of the Auville engine servicing facility. Unfortunately, neither photo gives a clear answer to your question.

Norfolk & Western's Y-Class Articulated Steam Locomotives by Thomas W. Dixon, Karen Parker, and Gene Huddleston is a black and white publication, but includes photos at Auville, including the inside of the servicing facility, on pages 92-94.

A lot of the lineside structures, i.e. motor car sheds, switchman shanties, were painted gray with brown trim. My guess, and that is all it is, based upon the color photos is the Auville engine servicing facility was the same. Certainly the gray weathered due to the elements and all of the steam engine exhaust.

Sorry I can't be more helpful; by the way, your coaling tower is very impressive.

Hopefully someone else can add more insight to your question. Good luck with your project.

I am attaching a couple images which help to understand how the trim was painted, but we are not very certain of the wall color. From the Archives drawings, I know that the walls and roofs were covered with J.M Transite Corrugated Roofing and J.M. Transite Corrugated Siding, and asbestos cement product. This would likely mean it was a light gray cement color, unless it was painted.
