Just a bit more regarding the Old Main Line in Lynchburg in the 1950s and 1960s

At the west end of Union Station was X Tower, which controlled the N&W/Southern diamond and connection.

About 1/2 mile east of Union Station was ND Cabin which controlled the diamond where N&W crossed the C&O just before the James River bridge to Island Yard.

Sometime in the first half of the 1950s, both X Tower and ND Cabin were consolidated into newly constructed  NC Cabin (a one story structure) near Union Station and X Tower and ND Cabin were closed.
