E3 locomotives

 I stand corrected; Jim Nichols is right.  The 5 locos were PRR K3, not K2.  The two PRR classes look very much alike, but the K3's were 5 years newer, and had 26" dia cylinders instead of 24" on the K2's.

 Walter Davis asked why only 5 E3 locomotives were built. The answer is that the N&W did not have them built. They BOUGHT them from the PRR in 1934. PRR had lots of them, which they classed as K3's. When they built the first K4, it was a better locomotive, so they built a lot of K4's. Apparantly, N&W wanted to retire their first J's, which were 4-4-2's, so they bought 5 PRR K3's to replace them, and gave them the N&W class of E3.
