Incident with N&W 475 - Smokebox front repair underway.

The smokebox front is being repaired via braze-welding - there’s a photo and short video of the process on Strasburg’s Facebook page with the following description:

“When old cast iron of unknown composition is broken, there are many high tech welding alloys available. However, we like doing things using skills that are  <>becoming a dying art. Known as braze welding, this repair technique which involves using a bronze alloy filler and flux has an extemely high rate of success, does not require material analysis, and can be performed on iron that is pourous or oil soaked."

Very encouraging! The latest word from a individual that visited Strasburg this past weekend is that 475 will be operational again next weekend.
