Abe,

     Your memories of Ralph Thompson are much different than my own. He 
was the Road Foreman of Engines on the Shenandoah Division under Russell 
Cabiness when I went there. Ralph was quite the "dresser" and always 
wore coveralls when on the train with us. I never had a hard time 
carrying out a conversation with him or Mr. Cabiness and they were 
always nice to me. It is also my understanding that one time he and his 
engineer saved a woman from her burning house near Montgomery Tunnel.
     The railroad as a whole did have some "crabby" people working out 
there, but to me, Ralph Thompson wasn't one of them!
