Tragic News

 Ken:  Day-by-day, I've been looking at the obituary column of The Roanoke Times to determine when and where the funeral would take place, but have been unable to find any information.  Maybe Charlie and Ellen hailed from a different part of the country.

I hate to be the bearer of bad news, but there is no way to improve this.

Longtime volunteers Charlie Schlotthober and his wife Ellen were killed in a car crash yesterday afternoon in Bedford County. Apparently, a truck turned across in front of them, failing to yield the right of way. Both were wearing seatbelts and died at the scene.

Those of you who didn’t know them, this is very sad. Charlie and Ellen were both very fine folks. Charlie was a long-time archives volunteer and came in every Thursday. His knowledge of the system and how to find things and his understanding of what is out there are unassailable and irreplaceable. Charlie is the one responsible for us having the collection of N&W Mechanical Drawings.

I’ve been totally punched in the gut with this news, and I really cannot really post more at this point. But Charlie and Ellen were good friends of mine.

No other details are available at present. More will be posted as time permits.
