No, Matt, no written guide.  Wading thru a written guide would probably be
more complex with just tinkerin'  and figgerin'  out Google Earth on one's
own.  The steps are rather intuitive.

All I would say to an interested party is:  Download Google Earth Pro (it's
free,) then find your house on the satellite imagery, then take the
measuring tool and begin measuring from your house to other points of
interest.  By this time, you will be addicted and the following steps will
come easily.

I learned Google Earth mapping the same way I learned electronics,
Photoshop, Russian language, how to clean a shotgun, diaper-changing
skills,  grandfathering skills, Excel, PowerPoint and Publisher:  by just
lighting in and doing it.  The only mentor I ever had was Mr. YouTube when
I got stuck on one or two little problems.

(But I would be remiss in failing to say that Mr. Ken Miller was there when
I floundered a bit with Photoshop, and showed me how to make that quantum
leap to the next level :-) . I greatly esteem his skills and wish I could
apprentice under him for a year.)

BTW, I much'ly enjoyed your YouTube presentation to the NMRA clinic on how
to map in Google Earth. You turn out a nice product, Sir Matthew !
