I was thinking we should repaint the 611 into UP colors like the 844 but with an Armour yellow tender and add smoke deflectors. Sacrebleu! Sacrilege! How dare I?  Ha, ha.

So lets repaint our UP locos  to all black to include Norfolk and Western on the tenders.  Just for spite

You know I'm not sure what to think oh this. I'll say I started feeling better about UP after reading Nothing Like It in the World: The Men Who Built the Transcontinental Railroad 1863-1869.

I simply don’t like UP.  My least favorite Class 1.  I well understand railroad operations and financials.  I well understand mergers.  I don’t like the damn yellow.  It’s hardly a Southeastern railroad.  I simply don’t like UP.

The UP started using Armour Yellow with Harbor Mist Gray in 1940.  It became standard on switchers and cabooses in 1947.   That is only 85 years.   The Santa Fe started using the War bonnet paint scheme in 1937.  It was used until 1996, only 59 years.     Not every corporation feel the need to re-brand itself with a new logo.
belong to multiple historical societies because I am interested in their history.  Corporate mergers do not alter past history.

Their paint scheme is tired and has been around forever.  I don't like it.  I like BNSF far better.  Financially and operationally either would be fine.

Ed, Roger, and others: why?  The Norfolk and Western, the railroad for which we are enthusiasts and modelers, has been gone for 43 years. The classic Norfolk and Western, in some views, has been gone since 1964. Some would say their interest ends in 1960, when the last steam locomotive was in revenue service. Even if you dislike UP, and its boatload of predecessors, why would that reduce your interest in your railroad?
This may increase this organization's interest in what is going to be another fallen flag.  Or the UP Society May embrace them.  Let's see what happens.

Won't matter to me as that would cancel interest! I hate the Yellow Hoard!
