In actuality that was also what the Virginian did.  This war tie and you did everything to speed up the use of the cars as quick as possible

The PRR cars leased to N&W were actually relettered (patched, not repainted). I know because I saw them. And it was not just a few.

If my memory serves correctly, Charlie Schlotthober unearthed records of both VGN and N&W, leasing cars from PRR at some point, which caused the resulting models after it was reported in "the Arrow". I don't think any evidence of repaints ever surfaced, so the paint schemes are all speculative. -Ed Burnett, Lynchburg, Virginia

You are correct, the first run ha a fantasy repaint with all of the Virginian lettering on them with PRR numbers.  They ere the H-21 four bay hoppers.  Later runs were more of a path paint scheme with only the reporting marks changed

Bowser over 20 years ago produced models of the Pennsy hoppers including N&W and VGN versions.  They were all red!

I was under the same impression that some PRR quad hoppers were leased to both N&W and the VGN during the war. Bowser offers both N&W & VGN on their PRR Quads, so I am guessing they have some photographic evidence.

Wasn't there discussion about this some time recently that there were red hoppers on the Virginian during WWII when the Pennsylvania Railroad sent cars to help cover a shortage?
