Bluefield name change

Mike,
I think it was for “civic-minded” reasons.  Supposedly the idea was to make either “twin” or “sister” cities.  The name change occurred at the state line at a ceremony in 1923 which coincided with the wedding of a young man from Bluefield, WV to a young woman from Graham, VA.  In the humorous account of my late history professor Dr. Stuart McGehee, “A group of businessmen from Bluefield, VA have been trying to schedule a divorce ever since then!”
