I don’t have a layout and may stay an armchair model railroader forever, but if I did build a layout it would be the VGN motor barn in Mullens and the vicinity around it, including some of the town. My Mom’s Uncle Bill Staats was principal of Mullens High for decades and mayor of the town for a couple of terms. I have a memory of him taking my brother and I to the motor barn. He knew everyone there of course, and we were allowed to sit in the engineer’s seat of a locomotive. I have a vague memory of looking out the front window. This might have happened in 1959 or ’60, when I was 4 or 5. I’d like to think it was an EL-C, so that’s what I’ll say it was.

I am expanding this question beyond members of the model committee:
If you have ever modeled, are currently modeling, or have ever thought about modeling some portion of the N&W, what part would it be?
It could be the whole thing, a division, a branch, the area around a town or as in Mike Rector's case, a specific siding.
I will tally this information and report the results which will be used for future product consideration.
Thanks,
Jim Cochran
