Here is the plan.  The actual layout is close, just less north of Andover - one line to a mine and another to a spiral down to staging.

A lot of changes took place south of Appalachia in 1986. My era is 1985 and earlier.  So no Dash 8s and no well cars.

To facilitate continuous running i reversed the turnout orientations where the Interstate enters Miller Yard, at Pennington, and at Pocket near St Charles.  I connected the line south of natural tunnel back to the Southern in Big Stone Gap.

I used Model Train Technology’s sensors and relays, with Tortoise machines, on either side of the overpass in Big Stone Gap to automatically throw the switches for an oncoming train to enter the bridge.
