<div dir="ltr">N&W had a plan to renumber all SD-40's and SD-40-2's as 6000-6207. Whether or not this had to do with the proposed C&O merger I don't know.<div><br></div><div>As purchased N&W SD-40's and SD-40-2's were numbered:<div><br></div><div>1580-1624 SD40's 45 units <div>1625-1652 SD-40-2's 28 units</div></div><div>6073-6207 SD-40-2's 135 units</div><div><br></div><div>Those units originally numbered in the 1500 and 1600 series - 73 units - would become N&W 6000-6072 and the units delivered</div><div>as 6073-6207 =135 units - would retain their original numbers N&W 6073-6207.</div><div><br></div><div>As such N&W SD-40's and SD-40-2's would be numbered 6000-6207. <div dir="ltr">There are two separate rosters of SD40-2 locomotives. 1600 and 6000 tow 6200. Is this because the 1600 numbering ran out or are the two groups very different inside or out. Are there other series of numbers for the "same"
locomotives like this? </div>
<div dir="ltr">GP38s are 4100</div>
<div dir="ltr">GP9s run from 500-920 or so where GP18 start (approximately).</div>
